Back to “The Cycles!”
Dear Nobles, Ladies and Families,
In my first communication to Aleppo, fifty short weeks ago, I stated that my goal was to spend time with each and every one of our active members. Although I couldn’t spend time with everyone, I came close. This year flew by. Laura and I attended countless events at different Shrine Centers, Shrine Clubs, Blue Lodges, other fraternal Masonic related organizations, military events, golf outings, parades and the list goes on! Each and every event was an honor to attend.
We met hundreds of people, and made every effort to spread the word about our Shriners Hospital system and the importance of our Aleppo Shriners Children’s Tansportation Fund. On a regular basis, strangers would thank us for the work we do for so many children throughout the world. While I may have been the face of Aleppo at these events, the gratitude belongs to all of you for your hard work.
Volunteering is not always easy. It takes effort, patience (sometimes a lot of it), and responsibility. We have faced many challenges this year but still managed to deliver transportation services to our young patients in record breaking numbers. Aleppo has already paid out $293,000 and we have committed to date, to pay an additional $483,000. The result is an astonishing total of close to $800,0000. Monies raised by all of you!
Throughout the year you have given your time, energy, and skills. You’ve spent time away from your families often going above and beyond what you originally committed to. With this sacrifice, you have touched the lives of young children and their families in ways that words can hardly express. I am deeply grateful for all your hard work and feel truly blessed to know all of you.
During these past eleven months, I have experienced a very wide range of emotions from exasperation and frustration to joy and pride. The role of a Potentate is not without strife and I did my best to navigate the matters that faced Aleppo. Thankfully the fun, excitement, satisfaction, and commitment to purpose greatly outweighed any challenges that arose in 2024. I have done my best this year and know that we are well respected by the Imperial Officers in Tampa.
Please join us at the January 4th Ceremonial as we welcome our incoming Potentate Cliff Critch. Cliff and his Lady Janis have an ambitious vision and many new ideas for Aleppo. Cliff will be an exceptional leader and he and Janis have our full support.
Although my role will be changing on January 4th, I continue to be committed to working with my fellow Shriners to create an even brighter future for our patients, members, and the communities we support.
Thank you so much for all your good works!
ES SALAAM ELEIKUM Fraternally,
David P. Veo
